    Heritage Park
    Fort McMurray's Heritage Park aims to preserve historical artifacts and buildings from the town's past. Visitors can take professionally or self-guided tours of an early 1900s trappers cabin, a Catholic mission, a drug store from the 1940s and more. A number of special events are held at the park throughout the year.

    Mackenzie Cairn
    Alexander Mackenzie and his group of explorers ran into great difficulty at the Peace River Canyon, where the waters begin to move swiftly and rocks create dangerous eddies and rapids. This cairn marks the spot where Mackenzie began his famous push for the Pacific.

    Mackenzie Crossroads Heritage Museum
    This museum and interpretive centre offers a glimpse into the Peace Country's past. Featuring a recreated trading post with over 1800 artifacts, a number of displays and art exhibits, a science program and more, this centre is an excellent place to stop on a visit to High Level. Cultural events and other goings on are frequently part of the program too.

    Sgt. Anderson's Cabin
    Sgt. K.F. Anderson of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police patrolled the Lesser Slave Lake and Peace River areas virtually alone at the end of the 19th century. His cabin, used intermittently while Anderson delivered mail along with justice while on month-long journeys, is preserved outside the Town of Peace River.

    St. Mary's on the Peace
    Established in 1818, this historic fort was the property of the venerable Hudson's Bay Co. It served as shelter, protection, a trading post and meeting place.

    Kimiwan Birdwalk & Interpretive Centre
    A birdwatching park located on the shores of Kimiwan Lake, with 300 meters of paths & wooden walkways that enable the visitors to enjoy birds and other wildlife species in their natural habitat. Over 200 species of charted birds make this area their summer home. Spring & fall migration presents a prime time for viewing and enjoying the small town peacefulness.

    The Dunvegan Provincial Park & Historic Site
    The Dunvegan Provincial Park & Historic Site, located on the north bank of Peace River, offers a glimpse into missionary life and the fur trade dating back to 1805. Tour the St. Charles Mission and Hudson Bay Factor’s House or drop by the Visitor’s Centre. Day use area and campground facilities are available with universal access. A boat launch is situated on the south side of the river, beside the vehicular suspension bridge. Open May to September. Call 835-2490 or 864-2266 for more information.
