High Level at a Glance
One of the most northerly municipalities in Alberta,
High Level is commonly known as the “Crossroads to Northern opportunity”. Located
253 km (157 mi) north of Peace River
on the Mackenzie Highway and about halfway between Edmonton
and Yellowknife, this vibrant
community has a population of approximately 3,650. People flock to High Level
not only because of lucrative employment prospects, but also because of the majestic,
untapped wilderness that surrounds the town and provides ample opportunity for
exploration and recreation. Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing
are just some of the activities available here. While in High Level, be sure to
visit the most northerly grain elevators in Canada, as well as the Mackenzie
Crossroads Heritage Museum, a re-created trading post that boasts an impressive
collection of historic artifacts. Golfers will love High Level's extended summertime
daylight hours; they can tee off at 5am and keep playing the links until 10pm.
